Ehiwarior Reposes Confidence In Nigerian Youths ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has expressed optimism that given the opportunity a lot of youths would  do well in leadership positions.

Engr. Ehiwarior made the submission recently when he received the Delta State Chairman of National Youths Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), Comrade Kenneth Okorie in his office at the Local Government Secretariat, Agbor.

He said he was particularly happy with the performance of some youths in leadership positions across the state, adding that they were proving that the younger generations could positively contribute to nation-building.

"I am glad to note that we are trying to build a pattern of sustaining youths's inclusion and relevance in leadership and community development.

"I see myself as one of the privileged youths, having been given the opportunity to serve in different capacities that include Commissionership and, currently, the  Chairman of Ika South Local Government. 

"Public office demands not only responsibilities, but more importantly, performance and accountability to the people. We must continue to prove that we have the ability to serve our people in whatever capacity", he  added.

While highlighting his achievements in office in the last four months, the Local Government boss said every project embarked on by his administration was viewed from the prism of its relevance to the lives of the people, stressing that the Abude road and Alihame market projects were carefully thought out. 

He added that, "as someone who had his formative years in Alihame, and saw the community grow due to its hosting an academic institution, I felt there was the urgent need to site a befitting market in the community. 

"Also, Abude Street holds a strategic location in Agbor metropolis, as it will help in redirecting traffic from the ever busy Lagos/Asaba road."

Engr. Ehiwarior, while bemoaning the high incidence of drug abuse among youths, commended the youth body for being at the forefront in the fight against the menace, stressing that the campaign against drug abuse should be sustained, as according to him, "drug abuse fuels insecurity and other social vices in any environment, reason, we must join hands to eradicate it."

He assured that his administration would continue to complement the NYCN in its advocacy and fight against all forms of social vices, pointing out that the onslaught against insecurity was a responsibility of all law- abiding citizens. 

He equally commended the individuals and corporate bodies that are supporting in providing infrastructure.

"I am happy that our people are beginning to see the need to support government in that area. I have always said that government alone cannot do it all. It is heart- warming seeing the likes of Ebeano Supermarket and Onyeagwu family erecting beautiful edifices in St. John's Catholic School, Alihagwu, and Gbenoba Grammar School, Agbor," he noted.

Earlier, the Delta State Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Kenneth Okorie, appreciated the Chairman for what he termed, an excellent performance so far.

He said the people, particularly the youths, were proud of Engr. Ehiwarior for exhibiting capacity and commitment to his assignment.

"We have seen what you are doing in Ika South Local Government Area. I am obliged to agree that you have beaten every record of performance in local government administration. We are, indeed, proud of you being a part of the comrade community."

He assured the  chairman of an effective  partnership in the fight against all social vices, especially drug abuse.

He disclosed that NYCN was collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in rehabilitating drug addicts.
