The recent news trending on the social media that immediate past Governor of Delta State , Senator Dr lfeanyi Okowa , has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), should not be seen as a guilty verdict.
Rather, it is a normal thing for the anti graft agency to invite persons who have held or still holding , public office, to clarify grey areas perceived to be needing clarification in the financial transactions under their purview.
These were the submissions of Chief Alex Okunbor, a business mogul and indigene of Owa Alero, in lka North East local government area of the state, while reacting to the invitation of the former Governor, over an alleged #1.3 trillion 13% derivation funds misappropriation.
According to Chief Okunbor, there is nothing to cry foul over the former Governor,s invitation to clarify financial issues during his stint as Governor of Delta State, seeing that other high profile public office holders have been invited by the anti graft agency , and still being invited.
While describing the former Governor as a respecter of state institutions such as the EFCC, the Owa Alero born business man and community leader commended Senator Okowa for responding to the EFCC,s invitation when called upon, describing the gesture as that of a man who has nothing to hide.
Chief Okunbor lamented the undue social media trial of the former Governor over his invitation by the anti graft agency, affirming that no one can be found guilty except so proven by a competent court of law.
He urged those promoting falsehood and maligning the former Governor on the social media space , to desist forthwith and allow the EFCC do their job according to the statute setting the agency up.
