Ehiwarior Suspends Scavenging In Ika South ~ Truth Reporters

 

Citing security concerns, Ika South Local Government has suspended with immediate effect, the activities of scrap and metal scavengers, locally called 'Iron Condemn', in the  area.

This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Secretary to Ika South Local Government, Mr. Kainji Aluge Obia, and made available to the press.

It said  the suspension was due to the illegal and  criminal activities attributed to some of the scavengers.

Following the suspension, the local government warned that anybody found engaging in scavenging within the local government area would be arrested by law enforcement agents for prosecution.

The move by the local government followed observed surge in the incidence of illegal and criminal activities traceable to  some of those involved in scavenging activities in the  local government area.

Though the scavengers were directed to participate in documentations by the local government before, the measure seems not to drop in some of them involve in burglary and vandalization in several communities.
