The people of Ikpide-Irri community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for keeping fate with his campaign promises of “positively impacting on the life of Deltans without discrimination through the MORE Agenda”

This was part of the resolution contained in a communique issued at the end of the recent Ikpide-Irri Community General Meeting.

In the communique signed by the Ikpide- Irri President General, Agbaga Romanus, the Vice- President General, Hon. Humphrey Odi and Secretary General, Prince Etuwede Gordon, the Ikpide-Irri Community noted with gladness that Governor Oborevwori have not only continued to build on the legacies of his predecessor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa but has also exhibited uncommon zeal in administering a multi-ethic state with varied challenging terrains and peculiarities.

While pledging their unalloyed support to the state Government in moving the MORE Agenda to yet another level, the Ikpide-Irri people called on Governor Oborevwori to graciously find time to personally visit the completed first phase of the 9.1 Kilometer Ikpide-Irri Township road which was awarded by the immediate past Governor of the state and for which they are immensely grateful to the Delta state government.

The people noted that the completed section has brought great relief to the riverine but richly endowed agrarian community and appealed to the Governor to kindly exploit all possible means to include the 2nd and 3rd phases of the Ikpide-Irri Township roads in the 2025 budget for subsequent award.

The Ikpide-Irri people in the communique also expressed their deep gratitude to an illustrious son of the Community, High Chief Immanuel Emoefe, the Okpugo of Irri Kingdom “for attracting the Ikpide-Irri internal roads and for standing in the gap to emancipate the Ikpide-Irri people who have suffered unimaginable neglect in the past.”

They urged him not to relent in his good works despite the attempts by one or two distractors who are agents of darkness and retrogression with devilish intent to fan embers of division in the peaceful Community.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Ikpide- Irri people have cried to the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC) to quickly come to their aid by fixing the dilapidated portion of the Odi- Ikpide –Irri road which was constructed by the NDDC but washed away by the massive 2022 flood.

In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of the Commission, the people called for early intervention as vehicular movement in and out of that axis has become increasingly difficult while transport fares on the route has risen astronomically just as the people’s livelihood has been grossly affected.

They appealed to the Commission to also award the second phase of the road that is scheduled to run through Ikpide- Irri and Canaan to Obuetor while expediting action on fixing the failed section soonest as the situation will definitely get worse as we approach the heart of the rainy season.
