Ika South LG to provide borehole, convenience at Alifekede mkt ~ Truth Reporters
Ika South Local Government of Delta State is to provide a water borehole and a convenience at Alifekede Market as part of efforts to make it conducive as a big centre of trade in consumables.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, disclosed this on Monday when he visited the Alifekede Market for an on- the- spot assessment of facilities and state of the market.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by some officials of the local government, was received by market women and some leaders of the community who expressed delight at the visit.
After going round the market, the Chairman expressed dissatisfaction over the poor condition and filthy surroundings of the market.
He said that being a big centre where food items consumed by people are sold, the traders were supposed to keep it clean to avoid contamination of the foodstuffs on sale.
He promised to rehabilitate the market to make it more conducive for business activities.
The Chairman also said that, as part of the requests of the community, the local government would provide a borehole and a place of convenience in the market, in response to which promises the women gave him a resounding applause as a mark of appreciation.
He used the opportunity to appreciate Alifekede community for voting and supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last local government election that brought him to office, adding that his administration would always listen to the people of Ika South whom he was elected to serve.
Earlier, while welcoming the chairman and his team, a spokesman for the community, Hon. Innocent Omorogie, said the people were happy to receive him, short on his assumption of office.
He promised that the people of Alifekede would remain supportive of the Engr. Ehiwarior- led administration, noting that the visit by the chairman was an indication of good things to come to the people of Alifekede and Ika South, in general.
