Ika South LG Chairman, Ehiwarior, Seeks Collaboration with DESOPADEC ~ Truth Reporters

 

The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has called for collaboration between the local government and Delta State Oil-- Producing Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

He made the call on Friday, when the Commissioner representing Ika Ethnic Nationality in DESOPADEC, Hon. Cordllia Anyagwu, visited him in his office at Agbor.

The Chairman, while appreciating the interventionist role of the commission, said it was imperative that areas of collaboration are effectively harnessed for the development of Ika Nation.

"I have seen the wonderful work you are doing in Ika Nation, and I must commend your efforts in ensuring that our people are factored in your development agenda. I must say that DESOPADEC is doing well." he stated.

The Chairman  emphasised the need for the commission to join the local government in tackling the menace  of indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially in the drainages, adding that the attitude had contributed to the uncleanliness of some parts of the local government area.

He said the local government had put measures in place to carry out enforcement against those who litter the environment, revealing that committees had  been set up to carry out the assignment.

Earlier, Hon. Cordelia Anyagwu,  disclosed that the commission was already carrying out palliative work in some erosion-prone areas as well as opening blocked drainages in Ika South, including Obi Ikenchuku Road in Agbor.

She solicited the assistance of the local government in opening up discharge points which had been blocked by silt and grasses for the free flow of flood water.

She equally appealed for support in the area of enlightenment, as according to her, "it will go a long way in reducing the penchant of our people to drop refuse indiscriminately."

The DESOPADEC  Commissioner appreciated the chairman for giving speedy approval to the request for land  to build the secretariat of the commission in Ika South, adding that having a place of operation would help their efficiency  in doing their job.
