*Dame Okowa: A model in charitable endeavours and motherhood, says Funkekeme* ~ Truth Reporters
Dame Edith Okowa, wife of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has been described as a role model in charitable endeavours and mother.
Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Policy Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, described the former Delta State first lady as a beacon of a supportive wife all through the administration of her husband in a message as she marked her 63rd birthday.
"Her choice of humanitarian programmes is unique and impactful. Through her O5 Initiative, she focused on areas that touched the lives of a segment of the population that hitherto received little attention. The O5 Initiative's focus on people living with sickle cell disease was the first such effort in Delta State.
"Nigeria is believed to be the most sickle cell endemic country in sub-Saharan Africa with between two percent and three percent of the total population affected. Despite the significant number of people affected, it took Dame Edith Okowa's initiative for the peculiar challenges of this significant segment of our population to be brought to the front burners", Solomon stated in his message.
He commended the former first lady for her dedication to the welfare of the less privileged and her other programmes that charted a brighter future for the girl child.
"As Dame Okowa celebrates her 63rd birthday, her legacies in humanitarian services will continue to speak for her and I pray Almighty God will reward her with excellent health, joy and laughter".
Dame Okowa was first lady of Delta State when her husband, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, was governor from 2015 to 2023.
