Agbi Inspects Projects in Asaba ~ Truth Reporters

To ensure that all projects in Delta State meet the necessary standards and quality, the Directorate of Project Monitoring/Audit inspected several projects in the state capital, Asaba, on Thursday.

The projects inspected include the completed Liberty Estate road, Otu-Ogwu Street, and the completed Model Technical College in Asaba.

During the inspection, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring/Audit, noted that one of the ongoing projects, Oto-Ogwu Street in Asaba, lacks equipment and personnel on site.

For the Model Technical College in Asaba, he commended the contractor for doing a very good job. However, he pointed out that for a year, students have been unable to use the state-of-the-art equipment in the laboratories and workshops due to a lack of electricity.

He stated, "The equipment in all the laboratories is brand new, but they are not being utilized due to electricity problems. Without a solution, they will soon deteriorate, especially the lathe and fabrication machines." He appealed to the contractor and the awarding ministry to connect the Model Technical College to the national grid promptly, enabling students to use the machines effectively.

Agbi also observed that the completed Liberty Estate Road was not properly cambered, leading to waterlogging in some sections, which could compromise the road's durability. He predicted that potholes might appear on the road in the next rainy season and advised contractors to adhere to specifications, drawings, and designs when constructing roads.

He emphasized, "The monitoring of projects in the state will be an ongoing exercise."

During the inspection at the Model Technical College in Asaba, Mr. Ate Oghenero, Assistant Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, stated that the school is fully completed and commissioned by the Delta State government. The only challenge they face is connecting the school to the national grid for a reliable electricity supply.

Dr. Agbi was accompanied during the inspection by several officials, including the Permanent Secretary of Project Monitoring/Audit, Mrs. Patricia Esejo, Mrs. Ebitomo, Director of Project Monitoring/Audit, Mr. Charlse Onahor, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Sese Omu, among others.
