Abandoned Projects: Return To Site, Agbi Advises Contractors ~ Truth Reporters

The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Project Monitoring/Audit Engr. Goodnews Agbi has advised the contractors handling Irri Technical College, Irri and the abandoned Oleh, Campus Engineering Faculty theatre hall, mechanical workshop and general workshop buildings to go back to site and complete their jobs.

Engr. Agbi made this known during an inspection tour of the above mentioned projects at Irri and Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State.

According to him "We can see obviously that the contractor is not on site at Irri Technical College. There must be a reason why the contractor is not on site. This laudable project that will benefit our teeming youths must not be allowed to get moribund. Whatever the reason why the contractor left the site must be resolved quickly for the sake of our youths who will benefit from this school". 

 "This project must not be abandoned the contractor should go back to site and complete his job. The Irri Technical College will benefit the community and neighbouring communities when fully completed".  Our God given governor, who has brought us to the threshold of rapid infrastructural development, the MORE AGENDA will not be happy to see this project  derelict.

At the Engineering Faculty in Oleh, he said that, "We have a beautiful lecture theatre that can accommodate almost two thousand students. It is about 80% complete, fully roofed remaining theatre seats for our children, but the contractor has  not handed over to the university. The contractor come and complete their work and seek for their payment and handover to the school. 

"The contractors  should empathize with our children that use these facilities for learning. This include the three laboratory/workshop blocks inspected".

He emphasized that the Delta State University Oleh Campus, Engineering Faculty cannot be producing engineers that don't have practical knowledge in their area of specialization, the contractor should please come to site and complete his job.

He appealed to the contractors to liaise with the awarding ministry to find a way forward on how the projects can be completed. On the Technical College at Irri, he noted that similar Technical College projects in Effurun, Ubiaruku and Asaba has been completed and students are in school.

At the Oleh-Ozoro roundabout of the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriage way, the project monitoring team inspected the work there and ask the contractor to invite them to inspect the finished formation level before laying the wearing course.

On his part the Provost Delta State University Oleh, Campus Prof. Elo Ibagere however appealed to the Delta State Government to help complete the Engineering Faculty theatre hall, mechanical engineering workshop and the general engineering workshop buildings that have been totally abandoned.

Prof. Ibegere stated that the longer they are unattended to the more they dilapidate and more money will be required to complete the abandoned buildings, noting that when they are completed for use they will be able to manage and maintain them. 

He also reiterated that, the abandoned buildings project should be completed in the shortest possible time so that the faculty will be a proper Faculty of Engineering that everyone will be reckoned with.

He added that, Delta State University Oleh, Campus is the most sort after university in the Niger-Delta region, saying that a lot of people want to come the school to study. 

Engr. Agbi was accompanied during the inspection by several officials, the Executive Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Sese Omu, Christian Amori, several SSAs like pastor Ken Atuya amongst others
