My administration committed to prudent management of funds - Oborevwori ~ Truth Reporters

The Executive Governor of Delta State,  Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reiterated his administration's commitment to prudent management of funds in the State. 

Governor Oborevwori stated this during the commissioning of projects at the Delta State University of Science and Technology,  Ozoro and Enhwe in commemoration of his hundred days in office. 

He stated that, "It is our commitment that projects started by the last administration are not abandoned; that will amount to waste of funds. If those projects are abandoned, that money is wasted. I have promised Deltans that I will consolidate on already established projects and that is what we are doing.

"This ultra modern furnished administrative building comprising of fully furnished office for the Vice Chancellor, his Deputy, Bursar, Registrar and their staff. The 2.km interlock Internal roads, University Guest house with 21 rooms and squash court, and Principal officers Staff quarters are some of the projects already in use. 

He commended  the immediate past Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for courage and vision in establishing the three new universities in the state. "Our people are ripping the benefits of the already established universities" the governor stated.

"It is an undeniable fact that the state economy, local builders and artisans benefited during the construction. That is one of the huge benefits in investing in infrastructural development and with the increase in Student enrollment,  the small businesses and the real estate set up will thrive"

Governor Oborevwori reassured Deltans that his administration will continue to invest the resources in ensuring that necessary schools infrastructures for the conducive learning climate for Deltans are provided. The goal of this administration is to  ensure that every child has access to complete functional education. 

"For our education to remain standard and impactful, it must also undertake research to help society to develop in real time for lasting solutions to the challenges of urban decay, potable water supply, alternative energy sources, public transport sector and waste treatment and management.  I am simply saying here that our education must marry both theory and practical"

Earlier on, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari said the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, was founded with 45 academic programmes in six faculties; all duly approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC). 

He said higher education was the most important precursor to industrialisation, adding that the Delta State University of Science and Technology vision includes; technological innovations, hands-on-skills training and ground breaking research directed towards socio-economic development. 

On his part Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Jacob Oboreh, said inauguration of the projects was a remarkable day for the young but potentially great institution. 

He said the university had identified with the Governor's M.O.R.E Agenda as a holistic roadmap for the advancement of the State

At Okpolo- Enhwe, where he inaugurated the Phase 2 of Okpolo -Enhwe - Uwheru Road in Isoko South Local Government Area of the State, Oborevwori said "notwithstanding the current financial challenges, this administration would continue to construct and rehabilitate roads and bridges in major metropolis and rural areas across the state to further improve urban-rural integration and boosting trade and commerce". 

While commending the contractor for a job well done, the Governor appealed to other contractors handling projects for the Delta State Government to ensure timely and quality delivery, adding that he would "only inaugurate projects that are of the highest standard and quality because the people deserve the best." 

Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu said the road connects the Okpolo-Enhwe people and their Uwheru neighbours in Ughelli North Local Government Area and commended Governor Oborevwori for his commitment towards the project.
