Funkekeme says Ward Liaison Officers, partners in good governance ~ Truth Reporters

Ward Liaison Officers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta state have been charged to leverage their closeness to the grassroots to the advantage of the government.

The Senior Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Rt. Hon (Chief) Funkekeme Solomon, gave the charge in Asaba at a meeting of Delta North Ward Liaison Officers.

Rt. Hon Solomon said the liaison officers were the eye of government in their localities and should endeavour to interact freely with the locals to be able to establish communication links between them and the state government, as a way to enhancing good governance.

He stated that they should attend community meetings, sensitize the people on the policies and programmes of government and aggressively canvass support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections.

The Senior POLAD further urged the Ward Liaison Officers to regularly attend party meetings, adding that they should be involved in the resolution of intra-party crisis and in reaching out to aggrieved members, with a view to brokering peace, reconciliation and strengthening the party at the ward level.

Rt. Hon Solomon stressed the need for the Ward Liaison Officers to work in synergy with one another in preaching the gospel of good governance as exemplified by the State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, just as they should promote peace, stability and security in their localities.

He said they should embark on voter education, as part of efforts to ensure peaceful elections, urging them to obtain their Permanent Voter's Cards, PVC, and encourage all eligible voters in their wards to get theirs.

Some of the WLOs who spoke at the meeting, commended the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for striving to finish strong and promised to rededicate themselves to their roles as watchdogs of the state government.

They, however, made a case for improved welfare to enable them to perform better, and called on the state government and the leadership of the PDP to check the excesses of some party leaders, whom they alleged were not carrying them along in the distribution of the dividends of democracy.

The Senior POLAD had earlier held a similar meeting with Ward Liaison Officers in Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts of the state.
