Okowa's emergence as PDP VP candidate not surprising - Funkekeme
The Senior Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Funkekeme Solomon, has congratulated his Principal on his emergence as running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Rt. Hon Solomon, in a message in Asaba shortly after the news of Okowa's nomination was broken, said it was obviously not surprising that he emerged Atiku's final choice, given the contributions he had made to the growth of PDP, good governance and democracy in the country.
He noted that Atiku might not have forgotten the role Okowa played in the 2018 presidential primaries of the PDP in Port Harcourt, where he emerged as the party's flag bearer for the 2019 election, adding that the Governor was also instrumental in his emergence as presidential candidate in this year's primaries of the party in Abuja last month.
The Senior POLAD said the Governor had remained a loyal and committed party man, a great mobilizer and a worthy ambassador of the PDP, describing his emergence as vice presidential candidate as a great honour to Delta state.
Rt. Hon Solomon acknowledged the fact that the task ahead of the party in prosecuting the electioneering campaign for the 2023 election was enormous, but expressed optimism that with Okowa PDP would have a seamless issue based campaign and go into the election well prepared to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the center and in more states of the federation.
He stated that the development strides of Governor Okowa, which helped to make the PDP a party to beat in the South South region, would surely be replicated at the federal level when the party must have won the 2023 elections, assuring that with Atiku and Okowa, Nigerians should expect a trajectory of governance at its best.
Rt. Hon Solomon, who also congratulated Deltans, particularly members of the PDP on the honour, urged them to individually and collectively support the Governor and the party to make the rescue mission already on course possible.
