LSD Centre partners NACGOND to retrain students on environmental education ~ Truth Reporters
The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development, (Centre LSD), will on Monday, March 1st 2021, conduct another round of environmental education for students drawn from members of environmental club of the eight Secondary Schools in Orogun Kingdom at Orogun Grammar School, Orogun, Ughelli North, L.G.A., Delta State.
A statement issued and signed by Mr. Foster Akpore, Niger Delta Coordinator of Centre LSD, states that the training is in conjunction with National Coalition on Gas Flaring and Oil Spills in the Niger Delta (NACGOND) with support from Dutch Embassy.
He said that “the objective of retraining members of the Environmental Club is to deepen their knowledge on environmental issues and to rev up the campaign on environmental awareness to people of the Niger Delta, ensure environmental justice to the degraded Niger Delta environment, implant skills for environmental leadership, pursue sustainable utilization of environmental resources, as well as campaign for actions that will promote sustainable development in the Niger Delta".
The training program which is sequel to an earlier set up and training on November 2nd 2018, is part of a week-long line-up of activities to mark World Wildlife Day on March 3rd, will culminate in a Quiz and Essay Writing Competition on March 5th, promises to be very robust and engaging and will draw participants from various stakeholders including students, community groups, CBOs, and the media.
The statement further urged the target participants to turn out enmass and be upbeat about taking the issues of the environment seriously including demonstrating environmental leadership in the larger society.
