NASS writes Okowa, commends Delta Govt on repairs of Federal roads ~ Truth Reporters

The National Assembly has commended the Government of Delta State for its effort in rehabilitating federal roads in the state.

The commendation is contained in a letter addressed to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, dated 21st October, 2019 and titled: ‘Re: Deplorable Condition of Benin-Warri and Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Highways- Letter of Commendation.

In the letter signed by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr M.A. Sani-Omolori, he recalled the sitting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, 26th September, 2019 at plenary, where the house commended the Government of Delta State for its magnanimity and patriotism in undertaking the repairs.

According to the letter, the commendation was in recognition of the palliative measures taken by Delta State Government to rehabilitate the Ologbo-Warri Road, saying it had eased the sufferings of commuters.

The letter reads in part, “On Thursday 26 September, 2019, the House of Representatives at its Plenary Session, deliberated on the Deplorable Condition of Benin-Warri and Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Highways and noted that the road, a major gateway between the South-South and South-East Zones which serves the human and vehicular needs of Nigerians is currently in a deplorable condition. It decried the level of accidents and loss of lives and property, as well as man-hour suffered by commuters on that road due to its bad condition as a result of neglect by the Federal Government. In recognition of the palliative measures taken by Delta State Government to rehabilitate the Ologbo-Warri Road, the House resolved to commend the Government of Delta State for its magnanimity and patriotism in undertaking the repairs of the roads to ease the sufferings of commuters.”

It would be recalled that recently, the Delta State Government embarked on the rehabilitation of some federal roads in the state, including the Benin-Warri, Benin-Asaba-Onitsha and Agbor-Eku-Amukpe Roads to ease the sufferings of Deltans and other Nigerians plying the roads, and also to promote economic activities.
