Flood Ravages Isoko Community, Houses, Farmlands Submerged ~ Truth Reporters

A ravaging flood has submerged Aradhe community in Isoko North local government area of Delta State, rendering hundreds of people homeless, destroyed farmlands as a result of unabated rainfall within the past few days in the community.



The floods which was as a result of heavy down pour of rain this wet season has rendered hundreds of persons homeless destroying properties worth millions of naira and farmlands.

Counting their losses, some of the residents whose houses where submerged by flood said, the reason why the floods submerged some parts of the community whenever it rains is as a result of drainages or water channels that are not in the community.

According to one of the resident, Mrs Rachael Ikelegbe while counting her lost said; "As you can see no way for the water to flow down to the stream in the whole community. We have lost so many of our goods to this flood. My garri and other foods are wet. I and my children couldn’t sleep all throughout the past night due to the flood."

"We are appealiing to the Federal, state and local government authorities to come to our aids by constructing drains and water channels across the various street in the community. You can see that from the beginning of the community down to the end, there are no drains or water channels. So how can the water flow? If we have drains and water channels in our streets and along our roads. We can always clear it, in order to avert the flood."

President of the Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA), Comrade Ovie Umuakpo, an indigene of the community attributed the flooding to excessive rainfall and absence of drainage system in the community. "The Community desperately needs drainage system to forestall future occurrence(s).

"I hereby call on the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Sen. James Manager, the Honourable Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Leo Ogor and the member representing Isoko North Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Tim Owhefere to insert Aradhe drainage system into the National and State budgets to help our people."
