Okowa Committed To Developing Rural Communities - Okoro ~ Truth Reporters

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has been described as a man who is committed to uplifting the standard of living of the people who are living in rural communities in the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural and Community Development, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro stated this on Thursday in Asaba at a press briefing to mark his assumption of office.

According to him, "Governor Okowa has done well in the urban areas with the creation of the Ministry of Urban Renewal hence his creation of the office of the Special Adviser on Rural and Community Development to tackle issues of under development in the rural areas of the State.

"Our Governor, Senator Okowa came into office four years ago with a promise of prosperity for all Deltans and you will agree with me that based on the facts on ground, he has performed exceptionally well beyond expectations.”

"As someone who has been around, I have seen governments come and go but, I can conveniently tell you without any equivocation that Okowa has done well for Deltans, especially our people, Deltans in rural communities,” he said.

He continued, “in his first tenure, our Governor revitalised the moribund Technical Colleges across the state and equipped them for our students to gain adequate skills that will make them independent and self reliant, as well as employers of labour. The Governor also scored another first in the Health sector by setting up the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme with over 550,000 Deltans already subscribed and enjoying the services rendered in line with the Universal Health Coverage.”

He noted that Governor Okowa is called the "Road Master" because there is no commujnity in the state that have not witnessed the governor’s touch in road construction, adding that by creating the office of the Special Adviser on Rural and Community Development, Governor Okowa was committed to the growth and development of rural areas because of his passion for better life for the people living in rural areas.

Rt. Hon. Okoro disclosed that his office will embark on needs assessment of rural communities and also partner with multi national oil companies and other development partners to bring to their attention the developmental needs of rural communities in the state.
