Tidi Moves To Curb Illegal Bunkering ~ Truth Reporters
The Chairman of Warri South Local Government area Dr Michael Tidi held an emergency stakeholders meeting with leaders and members of Ugbuwangue, Aja-Etan, Ifie, Egbokodo, and Ubeji communities, on the issue of illegal and illicit trade of oil, called bunkering, in the secretariat today.
Dr Tidi in an interactive session with the stakeholders, said this illegal trade in these communities is a heinous crime and economic sabotage that pollutes the environment as well as human health.
He said our values as a people has been eroded with get -rich- quick syndrome, and should be discouraged among youths. He called on elders and members of the communities to re-evaluate and reorder our value system, in order to curb the menace of the trade.
Some community leaders, responded by calling for a concerted efforts of government and security agencies to put an end to the illegal activies in their community by providing employment for the youths involved.
A consesus reached at the meeting, is that the act of bunkering was vehemently condemned by the stakeholders.
Present at the meeting is the Secretary to Local Government, Mr Joseph Oriboye, Councillor representing Ubeji ward in the Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Osanweren Victor Ogbitse, Supervisors for Environment, Health, Education and Youth Development, Leaders and representatives of Ubeji, Egbokodo, Ugbuwangue, Aja-Etan, Ifie communities.
