...As Assembly approves appointment of 15 Special Advisers
Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Tuesday forwarded 8 Commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for consideration as members of the State Executive Council.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, read out the names during the House’s sitting in Asaba.
The nominees are Chief Patrick Ukah, Oshimili North; Chief Festus Ochonogor, Ndokwa West; Rt Hon Basil Ganagana, Patani; Mrs Florence Alanta, Warri North; Chief James Auguoye, Okpe; Barrister Peter Mrakpor, Ughelli South; Mr Chika Ossai and Prof Patrick Muoboghare, Ughelli North.
The Speaker directed the nominees to appear before the State House of Assembly on Thursday, June 20 for screening.
Meanwhile, the House has approved the Governor's request for appointment of fifteen Special Advisers in line with session 196, subsection one of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The approval followed the unanimous adoption of a motion to that effect by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ochor Ochor.
Dr Okowa stated that the appointment of the Special Advisers is to assist him in performance of certain executive functions as Governor, Delta State.
The State House of Assembly on Tuesday also elected its principal officers as nominated by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The nominees are Tim Owhefere, (Isoko North) as the Majority Leader, Patience Ajudua as the Chief Whip, Oboro Preyor as Deputy Majority Leader, Festus Okoh as Deputy Chief Whip, and Solomon Igbrakpata as Majority Whip.
Innocent Anidi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was also elected as the Minority Leader and Moses Anaughe as Minority Whip following the recommendation by their party.
